Types of Security Cameras

Security Cameras are most needed product of any commercial, business and intelligence. Almost all stores have a camera which has a simple feature whereas on the other hand intelligence or military services should have a highly sophisticated camera to serve their purpose. Hence, security camera can have wide variety of range. Based on the features and its performance mentioned below are few types of security camera:

  • Infrared camera – These cameras are mainly used for night vision as they operate on infrared rays that are invisible to human eyes. The lighting source for this camera is infrared LED. Any object which has some amount of temperature can be captured in the camera. In a totally dark place, the video is black and white; with light colour images can be seen. These are mainly used by the defence forces to track the intruders from a distance.
  • Day and night camera – These cameras can work effectively during the day as well as night. During the day, the clarity is much better than what is recorded at night, with minimal lighting.

o   Dome security camera is a type of camera under this category. They are the once used in commercial places and few business offices. There a black dome that covers the camera. This can be a fixed type or PTZ type. Fixed type is not as versatile as PTZ which can zoom and tilt.

  • Wireless security camera – As the name suggests these cameras do not need wires as the other cameras. They have in built transmitters and receivers. But they can have disturbances from other signals like cell phones or even fluorescent lighting.
  • Network camera – These cameras, also referred as internet security cameras, are for online communication over the internet. They capture images in analogue mode and then it is converted to digital mode for transferring over the IP network to which the computer is connected.
